Inspiration Cafe started 18 years ago in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago by a former police officer who wanted to feed the homeless. Inspiration Corporation (Catalyst for Self-Reliance) has opened Inspiration Kitchens in Garfield Park in a LEED Gold building designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects. After a tour of the facility, I enjoyed a meal of fried green tomatoes, sweet potato soup and berry cobbler baked in a small mason jar. Food was excellent. Service bugs will be worked out. This is a social enterprise project at its finest. The kitchen will train people in the food service industry. The restaurant will serve free meals through a neighborhood non-profit gift card program and the restaurant will be open to all for business. Eat great food and support a good cause OR as it Inspiration Kitchens puts it: Dine Well. Do Good.
Sunday brunch. Cheddar biscuits. That's the plan. Located around the corner from the conservatory at 3504 W. Lake Street.
